WHO'S RUNNING YOUR CONTROL CONSOLE?

If you’ve ever seen Inside Out, you’ll remember the control console inside Riley’s mind.

At different times, Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust each took the wheel, shaping her thoughts, decisions and relationships. The same is true for us.

We all have emotions that rise up and 'take the controls'.

The question is, do we want joy to be leading the way, or are heavier emotions like fear, shame, sadness, guilt or anger quietly running the show without us even realising?

Many of us don’t realise these emotions are quietly shaping the way we live, love and lead.

Sometimes they don’t appear as a meltdown or a breakdown but instead show up in subtle ways like:

💥 A raised tone with someone you care about
🫠 A sarcastic comment that lands heavier than you meant
🏃🏻‍♂️ Avoiding a hard conversation or withdrawing when triggered
📱 Relying on coping mechanisms like scrolling, eating or even over-exercising

😨 Fear: often lives in the body as tightness in the chest or racing thoughts and when left unregulated, it can quietly drive our choices and keep us small

😢 Sadness arises as heaviness, tears or fatigue but when avoided, it can turn into disconnection from others.

😔 Guilt shows up as knots in the stomach and over-apologising and when ignored, it keeps us stuck in cycles of self-punishment.

🫣 Shame floods the body with heat and a collapsing posture and if unspoken, it damages our sense of worth and closeness in relationships.

😡 Anger rises as tension, clenched jaws and reactive words but when suppressed or exploding, it erodes trust and safety with the people we love.
